3/16/2022 0 Comments Training TipsThe rewards of a well-loved and well-trained dog are immeasurable. If you have found the right breed for you and are committed to your new puppy, you will enjoy many blessings along the way. Rain or shine your puppy will be committed to you and will love you more than you could imagine.
A dog's natural instinct is to please their owner. Your puppy will look to you for guidance and affirmation. Training a puppy is not always about setting aside a certain small block of time each day to teach them to sit, stay, lay down, although this is highly beneficial. Your puppy will need consistent training in everyday life, such as taking them for walks on a leash and not allowing them to lead you, but to keep them by your side as you lead them. When they do something right, it is important to affirm the good behavior or action immediately and reward them with praise, petting, a treat, or play. Likewise, if your puppy is doing an unwanted behavior, such as pulling on the leash or barking nonsensically, you will want to immediately correct the action by guiding them to a different action that you have already taught them such as sit, lay down, etc. Consistency is always key. Each puppy will have their preference of rewards, whether they love tug of war or they are food driven, paying close attention to what your puppy loves most will help you decide which rewards work best for your pup.
